| September 2003 - January 2004
Following an extensive awareness raising campaign we asked people what they thought of the proposals for Crossrail. This was done through Public Information Centres, meetings, information for schools, a 24 hour 7 day a week telephone helpdesk and a web site. The 29 Public Information Centres were set up near the route to show the local and wider impact of the proposed scheme with staff on hand to answer any questions. Of the 7,256 people who visited the centres, 2,826 filled out comment cards. From these comments, over 4,800 issues were identified and then considered in the development of the project. Three out of four of those who expressed an opinion were positive about the route. The local authorities directly affected by the proposals were also supportive as were the majority of community groups including English Nature, Friends of the Earth and the London Transport Users Committee. A report of the first round of public consultation can be downloaded here as can progress reports. |
