Crossrail has published more information relating to the Environmental Statement, published with the Crossrail Bill on 22 February.

The Supplementary Environmental Statement (SES) and its Non technical summary (NTS) are available from May 26, 2005, for free inspection and sale from some Council offices and libraries along the route (see Locations for View, right), or direct from Cross London Rail Links (CLRL) at 50 Broadway, London SW1H 0RG.

They are also available on the Bill supporting documents site, accessed from www.dft.gov.uk or www.crossrail.co.uk.

Any comments about the further environmental information should be sent to the Secretary of State c/o Tim Neate, Consultation Manager, Department for Transport, Major Projects Division 3, Zone 2/08, 76 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DR (e-mail: crossrail@dft.gsi.gov.uk) on or before 8 July 2005. Comments on the further environmental information will be presented to parliament and published.

'These reports are designed to update people on current design work, correct errors in the ES and are in response to consultation work being carried out,' said Norman Haste, Chief Executive of Cross London Rail Links (CLRL).

Safeguarding information for the whole route of Crossrail Line 1 is also now available on the Crossrail website.

Comments on the main Environmental Statement are still welcome. The Department for Transport invited comments on the Environmental Statement for Crossrail when it was published in February. That comment period closed on 17 May, so that comments could be presented to the House and published before Second Reading, and a substantial number of submissions have been received.

Given that Second Reading of the Bill will not now take place until after the Whitsun Recess, it has been decided to extend the period for comment to 10 June, to give people a further opportunity to offer views on the ES. This does not preclude later comments, but these would not be available to the House for Second Reading.
