Crossrail Equality workshops completed

Crossrail completed three stakeholder consultation workshops covering the whole route during July 2005 in connection with the Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA).

The workshops presented the route proposals and sought comment from the local authority and priority group representatives.

Some photos of the workshop held at the Great Eastern Hotel, Liverpool Street, can be viewed to the right.

The EqIA considers likely impacts that may affect the priority groups of age, disability, race, faith, gender, sexual orientation and economic deprivation.

Comment will also help inform detailed design.

Crossrail's Inclusivity Policy aims to make the benefits of a modern transport system accessible to all members of the community by providing a fully inclusive operational railway.

Its main policy objectives are to -

• Provide a fully inclusive Crossrail transport system

• Ensure the minimum practicable negative impact on priority equality groups

• Take all decisions that affect the public on the basis of evidence and inclusive consultation with priority groups

• Work to achieve the greatest practicable benefit to groups and communities by working in partnership with other transport providers, developers and local authorities

The programme highlights are -

Late 2005 ... Consult on Draft Equality Impact Assessment Report

Early 2006 ...Publish Final Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA) report

Mid 2006 ... Initial design assessment

2007 – 10 ... EqIA Reports on Design & Construction

2010 – 13 ... EqIA Reports on Construction & Commissioning

After opening ... Final Handover Report

for the Race Equality Impact Assessment report published on the Department for Transport (DfT) website.

It reports on the work that Cross London Rail Links, DfT and TfL have undertaken to take account of the potential race equality impacts of the project.

It outlines the approach that will be adopted as detailed engineering design progresses and when construction starts.
