300,000 young people find the link with Crossrail

The Link, an exciting magazine from Crossrail for young people has just been published.

Printed in bright colours with quizzes and a competition, the third edition of The Link has been sent to over 700 schools along the proposed Crossrail route from Maidenhead to Shenfield in Essex and Ebbsfleet in Kent.

Included are new schools along the section from Heathrow to Maidenhead and there is now the opportunity to obtain The Link in other languages.

'Young people are the passengers of the future and indeed many use trains now. We want them to feel a part of this exciting project and to listen to their views and ideas,' said Norman Haste, Chief Executive of Cross London Rail Links. (CLRL).

The magazine is also published on the Crossrail website - see download (right).

He added: 'Young people are interested in what is planned for the future and Crossrail is being proactive by creating those opportunities and making the resources available, as well as responding to requests from teachers.'

A game Boy Advance SP is being offered as prize in a special competition for young people to come up with five cryptic clues for five different places along the current Crossrail route.

This edition contains details of the winners from the last competition, run in partnership with Capital Disney, more in-depth looks at some of the environmental and engineering work Crossrail is currently carrying out, and a front page article about the current public consultation in which many young people across London are involved and the usual exciting competitions.

Also featured is Sarah Halstead, an engineer who manages the design for Crossrail tunnels, who is keen to encourage more young women to take up a career as an engineer.

The Link, edited by a teenager, is distributed to 300,000 young people across London, thus helping to involve them in the democratic process in which Crossrail is currently engaged.

The magazine is targeted at young people to try and get them involved in what's happening at Crossrail.

Crossrail has urged those who have yet to make their views known about the proposed railway, to visit a Crossrail Information Exchange or call the 24-hour, 7-days a week helpline before the end of the current round of public consultation on October 27.

Farringdon Information Exchange in Cowcross Street is open every Monday and Thursday from 12noon to 8pm, and Spitalfields Information Exchange at 91 Brick Lane E1 6QL every Tuesday and Wednesday 12noon to 8pm. The last day will be Wednesday October 27.
