As one of the largest engineering projects in Europe, the development and maintenance of the railway will provide hundreds of jobs both in construction and many other sectors.
In order to construct the railway many different skills will be needed from designers to electricians, surveyors and painters.
Works will include tunnelling, the creation of new underground platforms and new ticket halls at new stations in central London. There will also be improvements to outlying stations and work on existing bridges.
The scope of the project will attract engineering expertise from around the world.
There will also be lots of other opportunities to work on Crossrail in planning, publicising and maintaining the railway.
Here a small selection of some of the people that currently work on the Crossrail project to show you just how diverse their work actually is.
