Crossrail is an ambitious new railway for London and the South-East. As well as providing vital new transport infrastructure, Crossrail is a catalyst for regeneration providing jobs in the UK economy and relieving congestion with new routes, less crowding and faster reliable connections.
Over 8,000 people are now employed on Europe’s largest infrastructure project. Up to 14,000 people will be employed in building Crossrail at the height of construction in 2013-15. Jobs will become available as the major construction contracts are mobilised.
In order to maximise the opportunities for people to work on Crossrail, and to ensure Crossrail has access to the skills needed for construction, we have launched three major initiatives – the Tunnelling and Underground Construction Academy (TUCA), a partnership with Jobcentre Plus and a Crossrail apprenticeship scheme.
