As one of the largest engineering projects in Europe, the development and maintenance of the railway will provide thousands of jobs in construction and railway operations and maintenance.

Skilled people from over 40 different trades / occupations will be needed to construct the railway, ranging from designers, electricians and mechanical fitters to surveyors, steel erectors and tunnellers

Works will include tunnelling, the creation of new underground platforms and new ticket halls at six new stations in central London. There will also be improvements to outlying stations and work on existing bridges.
