Crossrail has won an excellence award for the ‘Application of Geospatial Technology in Transport Management’ at the Geospatial World Forum 2012 in Amsterdam.
The award was presented by Geospatial World, one of the most reputable independent geospatial publications. The Geospatial World Forum is a premier event in the geospatial industry calendar.
Malcolm Taylor, Head of Technical Information said "Last year the transport management award was won by Taipei City Council, and in this forum we are truly competing against global competition. Very well done to our GIS team who provide and run our ‘Crossrail Maps’. This recognition of their work really does demonstrate that what we are doing in Crossrail is world-class.”
Crossrail is engaged in producing a world class geospatial solution which offers centralised access to the major project stakeholders and contractors, allowing visibility of data and mapping relating to all aspects of the project.
It uses centralised data repositories to expose over 500 layers of information to the user, incorporating asset, engineering, environmental, utility, property and legal data. In addition the GIS department maintain and provides links to other systems such as project collaboration software, document management systems and planning management solutions.
All this is delivered using a high precision custom coordinate system over the web, providing the most accessible and accurate portrayal of an engineering project ever undertaken in the UK.
