Crossrail western tunnels construction progress

The western tunnel drive, between Royal Oak and Farringdon, are the first of 5 drives required to construct the Crossrail tunnelled section. Royal Oak Portal will be the point at which the existing Network Rail services on the western section of the route enter the tunnels under central London.

The first two tunnel boring machines will embark from the portal at Royal Oak towards Farringdon in Q2 2012, travelling approximately 6.4 km.
