The Crossrail Context Report provides an overview of the Crossrail works that will take place within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It can be downloaded in three parts (right).
It presents an explanation of that work, and a programme with respect to the making of requests for approval under Schedule 7 of the Crossrail Act, and a high level description of highways and traffic related work within the Local Authority.
The Context Report is available at Crossrail's Offices (Level 6, Portland House, Bressenden Place, London SW1H 5BE), or at London Borough of Tower Hamlets council offices (Planning Department, Anchorage House, Clove Crescent, London E14 2BE).
Crossrail will bring a number of transport improvements to the Borough of Tower Hamlets. Whitechapel station will be significantly improved with a new Whitechapel Crossrail station, which will link with the new London Overground services on the extended East London Line Extension (currently being built) and existing Tube lines, which are also being improved. There will also be a new Crossrail station at Isle of Dogs (Canary Wharf) and Liverpool Street station, which is on the border of Tower Hamlets, will also benefit from new Crossrail services.
Many journey times will be considerably reduced through Crossrail, particularly where new direct links are provided. Existing journey times could be more than halved, such as Whitechapel to Abbey Wood (16 minutes). Whitechapel to the West End will be just ten minutes and Crossrail will enable quicker journeys to the Isle of Dogs. Crossrail's high frequency and high capacity services will relieve congestion on many Tube and rail routes, improve access to jobs and generate investment in the area. Crossrail is the largest transport investment in London and the South East for 50 years.

London Underground context reports
The Crossrail Parliamentary Bill received Royal Assent on 22 July 2008, after completing all its parliamentary stages, becoming the Crossrail Act 2008. The Act gives permission for Crossrail to be built, operated and maintained. It also gives London Underground permission to rebuild the Tube station at Tottenham Court Road.
An outline of the works taking place within Camden and Westminster by London Underground as Nominated Undertaker is set out in the context reports below. These reports give a description of the works and set out a future programme for the requests for approval from Camden and Westminster Councils for the detailed planning required under the Crossrail Act.
