The Secretary of State for Transport issued the safeguarding direction for Crossrail on 24 January 2008 (replacing previous directions issued in 1991, 2004 and 2005). This can be found as a download, right.
A separate safeguarding direction was issued by the Secretary of State for Transport on 22 February 2005, covering the proposed section from Abbey Wood to Hoo Junction.
Local planning authorities must consult Crossrail when they receive certain planning applications on the Crossrail and Chelsea-Hackney route alignments.
If you are considering making an application within these areas, you may wish to contact the Crossrail safeguarding team for information about the effect of the safeguarding on your site.
The existence of the Safeguarding Direction will be declared by the local planning authority in response to searches of the local Land Charges register. If the search shows you are within the safeguarded zone, please contact the safeguarding team for further details.
Further information about the effect of the safeguarding is also available from the safeguarding team.
A document 'Information for Developers' is available. Please discuss this with the team.
The team will accept enquiries by telephone, but to reduce the possibility of errors you will be asked for a plan if you wish to know about a specific site. The team aims to respond to enquiries within three working days of receipt but it may take longer at busy times.
The telephone number for the safeguarding team is 020 3023 9100. Plans can be faxed to 020 3023 9101. The email address is safeguarding@crossrail.co.uk
