A separate Safeguarding Direction was issued by the Secretary of State for Transport on 24 February 2005, covering a proposed route from Abbey Wood to Hoo Junction. Plans can be found as a download, right.

The existence of the Safeguarding Direction will be declared by the local planning authority in response to searches of the local Land Charges register. If the search shows you are within a safeguarded zone, please contact the Safeguarding Team for further details.

The Safeguarding Team will accept enquiries by telephone, but to reduce the possibility of errors you will be asked for a plan if you wish to know about a specific site. The team aims to respond to enquiries within three working days of receipt but it may take longer at busy times.

* There is a consultation taking place on Safeguarding the Abbey Wood to Gravesend and Hoo Junction route 2008. This consultation sets out the Government's proposals to revise the safeguarding of the Abbey Wood to Gravesend and Hoo Junction route as a replacement for the Direction issued by the Secretary of State on the 24th February 2005.

The aim of the Safeguarding is to ensure that developments along this rail corridor do not impact on the ability to extend Crossrail in the future.
