Current Works

Works are progressing well on the new Crossrail Custom House station. The structure of the new Crossrail Custom House station has been completed.

825 precast concrete components were installed using a purpose built 35 tonne gantry crane.

These large sections of the station were manufactured off site at Crossrail contractor Laing O’Rourke’s factory near Sheffield and then transported to east London where it was assembled on site.

This has ensured safer construction whilst helping to minimise disruption to local residents, local rail services and events at the ExCeL London.

Description of work:

Works are planned to be undertaken in two separate periods. The first is 1 - 10 March 2017 and the second 27 - 31 March 2017. The works will involve the break-out of the temporary lift foundations; the removal of offices; the break-out of the thin concrete pad beneath the site accommodation and reinstatement of the tarmac road surface. During the removal of the offices it will be necessary to occupy one lane of Victoria Dock Road to park lorries while they are loaded with the sections of the offices. During this period (27 -31 March) temporary traffic lights will be in use at the junction with Freemasons Road. There will be some increased noise levels during the breaking-out works but we will use best practicable means to mitigate the noise.
