Current works at Liverpool Street Station

Current works at Liverpool Street Station

Liverpool Street station is undergoing major redevelopment to increase capacity, improve accessibility and upgrade interchanges as part of the building of Crossrail.

Click on the details below to find out about current construction works at Liverpool Street.

Crossrail is building a new ticket hall entrance under Liverpool Street which will link into the existing London Underground ticket hall.

The station box has been excavated to its final depth of 23 metres below ground level and the pre-cast roof is currently being installed. Works to construct the Access Passage linking the ticket hall to the London Underground Station – which required the temporary closure of the bus station - are now complete.  Works to connect the ticket hall to the platform tunnels are currently underway.

A 40m-deep shaft is being constructed on Blomfield Street to accommodate ventilation, electrical, mechanical and systems equipment for the new Crossrail station.

The Blomfield ventilation shaft has reached its final height of five storeys above ground level and is now structurally complete. Mechanical and electrical fit out is underway, to get the structure ready for handover to the railway systems fit out team this summer.

A temporary 42m deep shaft has been built beneath Finsbury Circus Gardens to provide access for construction of the Liverpool Street station tunnels that link the new eastern and western ticket halls at Moorgate and Liverpool Street.

The two platform tunnels have been completed and handed over to the station works contractor who is now installing the platforms in pre-cast segments, and the platform edge screens.  The tunnels contractor continues to excavate the escalator tunnels and access passages linking the platforms to the east and west ticket halls.

The western ticket hall for the new Crossrail Liverpool Street Station will be created by enlarging the existing Moorgate London Underground Ticket Hall in Moorfields.

All the demolition works at Moorgate are complete and good progress is being made on the construction of the new ticket hall, with roof installation now complete.  Works to fit out the Moorgate shaft are due to commence in the summer.
