The Railway

Crossrail will be a world-class, affordable railway, with high frequency, convenient and accessible services across the capital - connect the City, Canary Wharf, the West End and Heathrow Airport to commuter areas east and west of London.

Crossrail will travel from Maidenhead in Berkshire to Shenfield in Essex and Abbey Wood in the Thames Gateway that will travel through central London linking up Heathrow, the West End, the City of London and Canary Wharf.

A scheme of national significance and benefit, Crossrail will be the largest civil engineering project in Europe. The route length of its railway system is 118.5km (74 miles) in total.

  • Maidenhead to Stepney Green Junction - 68.0km
  • Stepney Green Junction to Shenfield - 30.5km
  • Stepney Green Junction to Abbey Wood - 13.0km
  • Heathrow Junction to Heathrow Airport Terminal - 7.0km
