Carbon Footprint Corporate Statement.
Crossrail published its commitment to quantify, and reduce as far as practicable, the greenhouse gas emissions from the construction of the project in the Crossrail Carbon Footprint Corporate Statement
Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Transport makes up a significant proportion of the UK's net greenhouse gas emissions and is the fastest-growing anthropogenic source of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the UK .
As a major new rail passenger service, Crossrail will play its part in supporting the vision of its owners, the UK government and the Mayor of London for tackling the causes of climate change.
The Crossrail Carbon Footprint is presented in the Crossrail Environmental Statement. This is a prediction of net carbon dioxide emissions (measured in tonnes of CO2) resulting from the construction and operation of Crossrail.
Carbon dioxide emissions will arise from the construction of Crossrail and during the operation of the railway. These emissions are offset against savings made as customers switch from modes of transport such as motor vehicles and existing diesel rail services (which result in greater carbon dioxide emissions) to the Crossrail service.
