Environment Crossrail Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Transport for London (TfL) and is committed to implementing all the provisions in theTfL Health, Safety and Environment Policy. Contaminated land

The majority of the Crossrail works are being built on land that has previously been developed (known as "brownfield" land). At some locations, historic uses may have led to contamination of the ground.

Crossrail will undertake the control measures as set out in the Crossrail Construction Code (Annex 1 to the Environmental Minimum Requirements) to ensure that the land does not pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the wider environment.

Pre-Construction

A programme of site investigations and chemical testing is being implemented in line with current guidance and best practice to identify and investigate potentially contaminated sites. The results of the site investigations are used to determine the nature and extent of any contamination, and will aid the development of appropriate risk reduction measures.

Mitigation

Where remedial works are considered necessary, treatment strategies will be incorporated into the design and construction programme to ensure that remediation is undertaken.
