Crossrail Environmental Objectives

To support the implementation of the Transport for London (TfL) Health, Safety and Environmental Policy and to assist in monitoring of environmental performance, TfL has set a number of Environmental Objectives and Key Performance Indicators

The Crossrail company is wholly owned by TfL, and is committed to implementing TfL's Environmental Objectives. Crossrail will report progress towards these objectives in accordance with the Key Perfomance Indicators (KPIs) adopted by TfL and the information will be included in the TfL Annual Environment Report.

In addition Crossrail has set a number of project specific Environmental Objectives as set out below. Progress towards these objectives will be reported to the Crossrail High Level Forum chaired by the Minister for Railways and the Mayor of London.

These objectves are:

  • Reduce the carbon footprint of Crossrail through the design, construction and operation of the railway.
  • Reduce the amount of excavated material going to landfill, with maximised beneficial reuse of the material.
  • Seek ways to incorporate environmental opportunities within the design.
  • Aspire to best environmental practice for Crossrail site works.
  • Reduce waste and energy use within Crossrail offices.
