Rail service Crossrail will deliver a major new heavy-duty suburban rail service for London and the South-East. It will connect the City, Canary Wharf, the West End and Heathrow Airport to commuter areas east and west of the capital. Timetabling Crossrail will provide a 24-trains an hour service at peak times in each direction between Whitechapel and Paddington. Trains will then run across or connect with the National Rail network on three branches.

Train design

The new dedicated Crossrail trains will be of the next generation, incorporating advances in technology, be more energy efficient and greener, lighter, quicker, carry more passengers and be more reliable than existing designs today.

The train service will be delivered by a fleet of approximately 600 vehicles formed into 10 vehicle trains.

Crossrail rolling stock will be designed with overhead longitudinal luggage racks mounted each side of the vehicles that run the full length of the seated areas. There will also be luggage stacks close to the doors for use as suitcase storage.

The Crossrail project represents a challenging and yet exciting opportunity for global suppliers of trains, which together with other major UK railway projects will lead the way forward for new Electric Trains for the future.
