Projects : Slough Station : Carole Osafo Boating

I am designing a second bridge/walkway for Slough Station. The aim is to create a structure that will be able to manage the demands of about 5.3 million passengers through Slough Station.

The existing bridge only has one level, the bridge I am designing will have two levels. From each platform a set of staircases or escalators will lead to the bridge and only to another specific platform, for example from platform 1 directly to platform 2 and vice versa. Another escalator will lead from platform 1 to platform 3 and vice versa, then there will be a direct link from platform 3 to platform 2.

By designing direct pathways for passengers this will decrease the amount of passengers on specific areas of the bridge, so only a limited number of people will be on a particular part of the walkway, therefore decreasing the congestion of passengers on the bridge.

My initial designs for the bridge were influenced by the St. Mary of Axe building (Gherkin tower), where each tower on every platform was a similar shape to that of the gherkin tower.
