Conserving the Environment

Looking after the environment is very important to the Crossrail designers and planners. A team of independent environmental specialists has surveyed and analysed all the proposed Crossrail work sites and development areas for possible impacts that the project may have on the environment.

The golden rule followed by the team is that any area affected by the project should be left the same as or better after the construction workers leave.

For example if a rare or endangered species is found along the Crossrail route, either the railway plans will need to be changed or measures will be taken to protect the animals or vegetation – such as relocation.

In this section you will find information about many different environmental aspects of the project from bats to building stations.
