PowerPoint Presentations

On the last session each of the five working groups had to present their strategy for a new railway line from London to Cambridge using powerpoint. Everyone involved in the course was invited to watch, including the Transport Minister at the time, Derek Twigg MP and the Executive Chairman of Crossrail, Douglas Oakervee.

Student Comments from Evaluation

Following the course the students were asked what new skills they had learnt and how these would be useful in their school work in the future:
  • I've learnt to think about everything and make alternative ideas.
  • Communication. Presenting arguments.
  • To overcome my shyness and work in a team with people I've never met before.
  • Think as a group, compromise between the group.
  • Listen to other peoples ideas, speak publicly.
  • Patience.
  • Listening skills.
  • Team work.
  • Sharing the work load.
  • More confident working with people and giving presentations.
  • When doing group activities, I can organise and compromise better.
  • Group work can be really exciting.
  • These skills will help me working in groups and improve how well I listen to others.

They were also asked what they had enjoyed the most:
  • Working in a group and doing presentations
  • Learning how the parliament and democratic system works.
  • Working with other people because you can get an insight on people's ideas.
  • Meeting new people because they were totally contrasting to your everyday people.
  • The final presentation was absolutely lovely. Total blast!
  • The presentations. They were unique and enjoyable.

Below are sample slides from the final PowerPoint presentations.
