In 2018 a new era in London’s transport will begin when Crossrail starts to serve Londoners and visitors with a new rail service to provide additional transport capacity for London’s transport network.
The Crossrail Art Programme will be a key element in the continuing development of London’s cultural heritage legacy, through the inclusion of high quality, ambitious, permanent art commissions from leading artists within Crossrail’s new stations in central London and Docklands at Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon, Liverpool Street, Whitechapel, Canary Wharf and Custom House.
Crossrail has appointed Futurecity, a leading cultural placemaking agency, to work in collaboration to develop a visionary art programme that will bring world-class artists together with international architecture and engineering teams in the delivery of an art programme for the new railway.
Funding for The Crossrail Art Programme will be sought from private sponsorship.
A launch event, hosted by City of London Corporation on 25 March at Guildhall, will announce the art programme’s line-wide strategy and launch its funding drive.
